The Golden Ratio in Architecture

The Egyptians are said to have known about the Golden Ratio and to have used it in building the Great Pyramid.
It is "common knowledge" that the Golden Ratio was used in the design of the Parthenon.
Medieval architects also connected geometry and architecture. Here we see Chartres Cathedral, where it is said the Golden Ratio was used.
In the United Nations building in New York, the upright part of the L is claimed to have sides in the golden ratio. It is also said that there are distinctive marks on this taller part which divide the height by the golden ratio.
