(Re-) Introduction to Maple
Download the tutorials:
Mike Pepe of Seattle Community College has created a helpful set of Maple tutorials called Maple Essentials.
- Right-click on the link, select Save Target As ..., and save the folder to the desktop.
Select the tutorial to work on
- Open the folder.
- If you've never used Maple before, read the Intro, then move on to Section 1.
- If you have used Maple before, then depending on your comfort level, either review a section, do the practice problems, or help people who have never used Maple before to feel comfortable with it.
- The sections are:
- Section 1: Numerical Calculations
- Section 2: Algebraic Calculations
- Section 3: Graphing
- Section 4: Solving Equations
- Section 5: Graphing: Defining, Evaluating, and Graphing
- Section 6: More on Graphing
- Practice Problems
- Interface (this seems to discuss a few aspects of the worksheet interface)
Open the file
If clicking on the file doesn't work, then drag the file to the Maple 11 icon (a Maple leaf with a square containing the number 11).
Working through the Tutorials
- When you open up any of these sections, you'll just see a heading with a triangular bullet. To see what's under one of these bullet headings, click on the triangle. You'll then see a list of bullet headings; again, open the section you want to work on by clicking on the triangular bullet.
- Open the next tutorial before closing the last -- when you close the last open Maple file, Maple itself closes.
- The most important sections for you to work on are Sections 1, 3, and 5, although 2 and 4 will also be useful. If you finish working through them all, give the Practice Problems a try.
- Enjoy yourself, and be open-minded: there's no denying that if you're used to using a graphing calculator, at first Maple will seem like more trouble than it's worth. But if you give it a shot, and practice with it frequently, it becomes nearly as easy as the graphing calculator and it can do so much more! It's also easier to work with others when you're using Maple.
