Reading Assignments
Fall 1999, Math 100
Due Friday 12/10 at 9am
Section 7.5: The Tangent Function
Reading questions:
- Evaluate tan(Pi/4) without a calculator.
GD says:
tan(pi/4)=sin(pi/4)/(cos(pi/4)=(square root2/2)/(square root2/2)=1
- Evaluate tan(Pi) without a calculator.
KC says:
tan pi =sin pi/cos pi =0/1 =0 æ
- Explain why the graph of tan(x) has a vertical asymptote at x=Pi/2.
DG says:
That is where tan pi/2= sin pi/2/ cos pi/2. The cos of pi/2 is 0.
Therefore zero will be in the denominator and thats a big no-no.
Due Monday 12/13 at 9am
Review Everything
Reminders:
- Be done with all assigned problems (including, but not limited to, the last problem set)
- Your final is Saturday at 9am. I don't know where yet, check back.
- Plan on the final taking 3 hours.
- For the final, you should redo all the assigned problems (or as many as possible), redo study guide problems, review all gateways and quizzes, review (preferably redo) past midterms, and look through the review questions at the end of each chapter.
