Installing Maple on Your Macintosh

    (Last modified: Wednesday, August 17, 2011, 5:02 PM )

We will use Maple 12 (a powerful computer algebra and graphing package) throughout the semester. Students with Macs that run OS X.2 can dowload it onto their computers for the semester (you must delete it at the end of the semeter). Unfortunately, Maple 12 doesn't work on older versions of OS X, and our licensing agreements don't allow for older versions of Maple to be used anymore. For those of you with older computers, the computers in KACC (both PCs and Macs) have Maple on them.

    • Please let me know if you are down-loading Maple onto your computer!
    • Macintosh OS X.2

      • Under the GO menu, select "Connect to Server" and type in the following: smb://155.47.35.243 and select "connect".

(Yes, in this case you do use two forward slasshes.)

      • When the "SMB/CIFS filesystem Authentication" window comes up, type in GUEST under the username field. There is no password.
      • When the next window comes up, just press OK.
      • The "Software" server icon will appear on your desktop. Double click on it to open, and select Maple 9.01 folder. Then select the OS X.2 folder.
      • Open the file "serialnumber.txt" and write down the serial number.
      • Open up the next two OS X folders.
      • Open up "MacInstaller". Run this, and it will install Maple.
    • Reminder: You must delete Maple from your computer at the end of the semester.

If you have any problems with installation, please contact Diane DeMelo (x 3924, ddemelo).
