Monday 4/2
- When class starts you should:
- Have already done a lot of studying, and have brought questions to class.
- IPS 13 (Ch. 4: 3, 5, 6) is due today.
- Assignment:
- Read for Wednesday: Read Section 4.3
This section is difficult. Really read through it several times, and try to get
as much out of it as possible, so that Wednesday's class can aim at clearing up
difficulties.
- Reminder:
- You do not have any problems due Wednesday. Use that extra time to pore
through Section 4.3.
Wednesday 4/4
- When class starts you should:
- Have thoroughly read Section4.3.
- No problem sets are due today.
- Assignment:
- Read for Friday: Read Section 4.5
- Due 4/9: GPS 6
- Reminder:
- Think about calculating the power of some voting system for an activity!
Friday 4/6
- When class starts you should:
- Have thoroughly read Section4.5.
- Have brought questions on GPS 6 (Ch 4: 7, 8, 10, 11)
- No problem sets are due today.
- Assignment:
- Read for Monday: Section 4.6, begin 9.4
- Due 4/11:
Ch. 4: 15, 16a
note: For 16a, calculate the Banzhaf index of each voter, as well as the Banzhaf Power.

Monday 4/9
- When class starts you should:
- Have thoroughly read Section4.6 and have begun Section 9.4
- Have GPS 6 (Ch 4: 7, 8, 10, 11) ready to turn in.
- Assignment:
- Read for Wednesday: Finish Section 9.4
- Due 4/13: IPS 14
- Reminder:
- GPS 7 (Ch 4: 15, 16a) is due Wednesday.
Note: For 16a, please calculate the Banzhaf index of each voter as well as the Total Banzhaf Power.
- Think about calculating the power of some voting system for an activity!
Wednesday 4/11
- When class starts you should:
- Have made a good start on reading Section 9.4
- GPS 7 (Ch. 4: 15, 16a) is due at the beginning of class.
- Assignment:
- Read for Friday: Re-read Section 9.4, paying special attention to calculating the president's power using the two methods we know.
- Due 4/16: IPS 15
- Reminder:
- IPS 14 (Ch 4: 17, 18) is due Friday 4/13.
- Taxes are due Sunday (so probably really Monday).
Friday 4/13
- When class starts you should:
- Have finished reading Section 9.4
- IPS 14 (Ch. 4: 17, 18) is due at the beginning of class.
- Assignment:
- Read for Monday: Section 9.6
- No new assignment today
- Reminder:
- IPS 15 (Ch 9: 5ac, 6, 8) is due Monday 4/16.
Monday 4/16
- When class starts you should:
- Have read through Section 9.6 at least once.
- Have IPS 15 (Ch. 9: 5ac, 6, 8) ready to turn in at the beginning of class.
- Assignment:
- Read for Wednesday: Re-read Section 9.6, trying to make real sense of it, and to see some of the subtleties.
- Due 4/20: GPS 8
- Reminder:
- You have no assignments due Wednesday.
Wednesday 4/18
- When class starts you should:
- Have read through Section 9.6 several times.
- Assignment:
- Read for Friday: Read Sections 5.1 and 5.2
- Due 4/23: GPS 9
- Reminder:
- GPS 8 (Ch 9: 21) is due Friday.
Friday 4/20
- When class starts you should:
- Have read through Section 5.1 and 5.2
- Have GPS 8 (Ch. 9: 21) ready to turn in at the beginning of class.
- Assignment:
- Read for Monday: Section 5.3
- Due 4/25: GPS 10
- Reminder:
- GPS 9 (Ch 9: 22) is due Monday.
- If you haven't already done several activities, you'll want to check out the activities page for some ideas related to voting (social choice) theory.

- Read for Wednesday: Re-read Section 5.3, begin Section 5.4
- Due 4/27: GPS 11
- Reminder:
- GPS 10 (Ch 5: 3, 9) is due Wednesday.
- You have an exam one week from this Monday (4/23) -- sign up for a time to take the exam; let me know if you have a compelling reason why you can not take the exam Monday night by Wednesday; begin planning your studying.

- Have GPS 10 (Ch. 5: 3, 9) ready to turn in at the beginning of class.
- Assignment:
- Read for Friday: Read Sections 5.4, 5.5
- No new homework is assigned today!
- Reminder:
- This is your last day to plan alternative times for taking the exam!
- GPS 11 (Ch 5: 4, 6) is due Friday.
- Think about doing more activities.
Friday 4/27
- When class starts you should:
- Have read Sections 5.4, 5.5
- Have GPS 11 (Ch. 5: 4, 6) ready to turn in at the beginning of class.
- Assignment:
- Read for Monday: Review for the exam!
- No new homework is assigned today!
- Reminder:
- Your exam is Monday evening. If you haven't already signed up for a time to take the exam, be sure to do so Friday.
- As always, you may have a sheet of notes for the exam: it must be standard sized (or smaller), front-only, handwritten by you.
- Monday will be reserved for questions -- bring some, or we'll be darned bored.
- Review using the same techniques I suggested last time: do as many problems as you possibly can; summarize each section, re-read notes and the text.
- Think about doing more activities.
