Computer Use In and Out of the Classroom

    • Etiquette for using computers during class
    • We'll be using the computer algebra system Maple throughout the semester. As long as your computer is connected to the campus network (and your computer has a recent enough operating system), you may use Maple on it. Here are the instructions for installing Maple on a Mac and for installing Maple on a Windows PC.
    • A good resource is Waterloo Maple's Student Center. Be sure to check out the tutorials at the link Downloading free Maple tutorials - Maple Essentials

Toward the middle of that page will be an option to Download Maple Code -- choose that. Then -- and this is new in 2005--you seem to have to register to download the tutorials. It seems to work fine to register as a guest, just make sure you fill out everything. For title/position, try entering "student". Once you submit that form, then just click on click here to begin the download. Once you've done that, you just need to find where the files have been downloaded, and open up the one you want. The first time around, you probably want to begin with the Intro, then perhaps move on to Interface, and then Section 1.
